Privacy policy
What RV Shift collects, why, who sees it, and how you can delete it. Effective October 24, 2026.
RV Shift is run by RV Shift LLC ("RV Shift", "we", "us"). It is a website that shows RVs for sale from dealerships' own websites, and it is meant for shoppers in the United States. This policy covers this website. The RV Shift dealer dashboard is a separate site for dealers; this policy also covers what this website passes to it.
The short version
- You can use RV Shift without an account. Your saved RVs (hearts), your ZIP code and your RV Finder answers then stay in your own browser.
- If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we also keep your saved RVs, ZIP code and RV Finder answers in your account, so they follow you to other devices.
- If you send a message about an RV, it comes to us and we pass it to the dealer. RV Shift is not the seller.
- We do not show ads. This site loads no advertising or analytics code, and our own code sets no cookies.
- You can delete your account and your saved data yourself, any time. Here is how.
What we collect, and why
We collect what you choose to send us, what the site needs to work, and what comes with every web request.
- Messages about an RV. When you use "Check availability" or "Ask about this RV" on a listing, we collect your name, email, phone number (optional) and message. The form also records which RV it is about: its ID and title, the price shown, whether it was available or sale pending, the dealer's name, and when we last saw it on the dealer's website. We use this to pass your message to the dealer.
- Sell my RV. The RV's type, year, make, model, length (optional), mileage (motorhomes), asking price (optional), what you hope to do, the ZIP code where it is, your name, phone, email, and any notes. We use this to read what you sent and, if we write back, to reply to you about your RV.
- Sign-up and contact forms. Your name and email. On the sign-up form we also ask what you are here to do (buy, sell or list a dealership). If you open the sign-up form from the RV Finder, your RV Finder answers go with it, so you do not have to type them again. On the contact form we also collect your message and record which page you were on. On the page for an RV that is no longer listed, the sign-up form also records which RV you were looking at. We use the contact form to write back to you. If you leave your email in a sign-up box, we keep it so we can write to you about RV Shift later; we do not send updates yet.
- Dealership forms. If you list your dealership: the dealership's name and website, how many RVs and locations it has, its state and website platform, your name, role, email and phone, your notes, your OK for us to load its listings and photos from its website, and which page or button you came from. We use this to set up the dealership on RV Shift.
- Google sign-in. When you choose "Continue with Google", Google gives Firebase Authentication (Google's sign-in service) your name, email address, profile photo link and Google account ID. Firebase keeps them as your RV Shift sign-in account, and we can see them in our Firebase project. We use them to recognize you when you come back. The account menu shows only your first name or first initial. We never see your Google password. Signing in does not sign you up for email.
- Facebook sign-in. When you choose "Continue with Facebook", Meta (the company behind Facebook) gives Firebase Authentication your name, email address, profile photo link and Facebook account ID. Firebase keeps them as your RV Shift sign-in account, and we can see them in our Firebase project. We use them to recognize you when you come back. The account menu shows only your first name or first initial. We never see your Facebook password. Signing in does not sign you up for email. If an RV Shift account already exists for the same email address through Google, we ask you to continue with Google first and then connect your Facebook sign-in to that account, so you have one account, not two.
- Saved data while you are signed in. A record tied to your account ID in Cloud Firestore, Google's database service. It holds the IDs of the RVs you saved, your ZIP code, your RV Finder answers, and when the record was last updated. We keep it so your hearts and answers follow you from device to device. The database's rules let a signed-in person read, change or delete only their own record.
- Anonymous counts. Where counting is on (the footer says so), the site counts listing views, saves, shares and taps on a dealer's Call, Directions or Dealer website button, so dealers can see how their RVs do. Each count goes straight from your browser to the RV Shift dealer dashboard and holds: the kind of action, which RV, how many seconds into your visit in that browser tab (not the time of day), your time zone offset, and a random ID that lives only in that tab and is gone when you close it. It has no name, email or account on it, and it is not linked to your Google or Facebook account. Taking an RV out of your saved list is not counted. Like any request, it reaches the dashboard's server with your IP address, which the dashboard uses to limit abuse. The dashboard keeps counts by day and hour. We do not count robots, visitors whose browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, or a dealer's own visits from its dashboard (those links carry
?nt=1, which tells the site not to count that browser tab). - Standard web request details. Like every website, ours receives your IP address, your browser and device type, and the pages you ask for each time a page loads. Our host, Netlify, receives this and keeps standard server logs under its own policy. If you search by ZIP code, the ZIP is part of the page address, so it shows up in those logs and goes along if you copy the address from your browser and send it to someone.
- Your tow vehicle's VIN. If you look up your tow vehicle by VIN in the RV Finder, your browser sends the VIN to the free VIN decoder run by NHTSA (the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The VIN does not come to us, and we do not keep it.
Where it comes from
- From you: what you type into a form, what you tap (hearts, ZIP code, RV Finder answers), and what you choose when you sign in.
- From your browser, automatically: the web request details above.
- From Google: your name, email, photo link and account ID, when you sign in with Google.
- From Meta (Facebook): your name, email, photo link and Facebook account ID, when you sign in with Facebook.
- From dealers: the listings on RV Shift come from dealers' own websites and, for dealers who joined, their RV Shift dashboard. That is information about RVs and dealerships, not about you.
Who we share it with
We do not show ads, and we do not send your details to advertisers or data brokers. Your information goes to these places, and only for the reasons given:
- The dealer you contact. When you send a message about an RV, the dealer gets your name, email, phone number (if you gave one), your message and the RV. RV Shift is not the seller: prices, availability and the sale itself are the dealer's. We pass your message on in one of two ways. If the dealer has an RV Shift dealer dashboard, your message goes there. Otherwise, and for a message about an RV that is no longer listed, we forward it ourselves, after confirming with the dealership (by phone) who should get it. We never send it to an address we only found on the dealer's website. The dealer's own privacy practices apply to its copy.
- The RV Shift dealer dashboard. A separate site that RV Shift runs for dealers. It receives inquiry messages from our form service, and the anonymous counts described above.
- Netlify hosts this website and runs our forms. Netlify receives and stores every form you send, and receives your IP address and browser details whenever a page loads. See Netlify's privacy policy.
- Google. Firebase Authentication handles sign-in, and Cloud Firestore stores the saved-RV record of signed-in people. Google's sign-in code loads only when you point at, tap or move to a "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Facebook" button (that is what lets the sign-in window open when you click), or when you were signed in on this device before. Every page also loads the Montserrat font from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details for that request. See Google's privacy policy and Firebase's privacy page.
- Meta (Facebook Login). If you choose "Continue with Facebook", the sign-in window is Facebook's, and Meta learns that you signed in to RV Shift. Meta gives Firebase Authentication your name, email address, profile photo link and Facebook account ID. We do not post to Facebook and we do not ask for your friends, posts or other Facebook data. See Meta's privacy policy.
- NHTSA receives a VIN only if you choose to look one up in the RV Finder.
- Dealers' websites and photo hosts. Some listing photos load straight from the dealer's own website or photo host, so that server sees your IP address and browser details, as with any image on the web. When you tap Call, Directions or Dealer website you leave RV Shift: Call opens your phone, Directions opens Google Maps in a new tab, and Dealer website opens the dealer's site. Each has its own policy.
- Anyone the law requires. We may share information if the law requires it, or to protect people, the site or our rights.
Cookies and what stays on your device
Our own code sets no cookies. There is no advertising, no analytics tool and no tracking pixel on this site. The Google sign-in window belongs to Google, and the Facebook sign-in window belongs to Meta; each may use its own cookies and storage there. What the site itself keeps in your browser:
- Until you clear it (local storage):
rvs_saved(the IDs of RVs you hearted),rvs_zip(your ZIP code),rvs_profile(your RV Finder answers) and, once you have signed in,rvs_auth(a flag that says you were signed in on this device, with no personal details in it) andrvs_sync(your account ID plus a copy of the saved RVs, ZIP code and answers last stored in your account, so the site can tell what changed on this device from what changed on another). Signing out or deleting your account removesrvs_authandrvs_sync. - Until you close the tab (session storage):
rvs_finder(where you are in the RV Finder); where counting is on,rvs_s(the random tab ID),rvs_t0(when the tab started) andrvs_c(which actions were already counted);rvs_nt, which is set only when a link carries?nt=1and marks the tab as "do not count"; andrvs_fbtest, which is set only when a link carries?fbtest=1(a switch used to test Facebook sign-in) and holds nothing about you. - While you are signed in: Firebase keeps your signed-in session in your browser's IndexedDB storage.
If you block or clear this storage, the site still works. It just forgets your hearts, ZIP code and answers. Signing out does not clear your hearts, ZIP code or answers from the device.
Signing in copies your account's saved RVs, ZIP code and RV Finder answers onto the device you are using. They stay there after you sign out, and they are added to the account of whoever signs in next on that device. On a shared computer, clear this site's data after you sign out. How to clear it.
How long we keep things
- On your device: until you clear it or remove it. We cannot clear it for you.
- Your account and saved-RV record: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes both. Some copies can linger for a while in Google's backups and logs, under Google's own policy.
- Messages from our forms, including the copy in the dealer dashboard: We keep them for 12 months, then delete them.
- A message already passed to a dealer: the dealer keeps its own copy under its own practices. We cannot delete the dealer's copy.
- Anonymous counts: kept by day and hour so dealers can see how their RVs do. They have no name, email or account on them.
- Server logs at Netlify and Google: under their own policies.
Your choices and rights
- See your saved data. Your saved RVs are under "Saved RVs" in the menu. To ask for a copy of everything we hold about you, email us.
- Correct it. Change your ZIP code or hearts yourself, any time. Fix your name or email in your Google or Facebook account. To correct something you sent in a form, email us.
- Delete it. Delete your account yourself from the account menu ("Delete my account"), or email us. You can also ask us to delete the messages you sent through our forms. Step by step.
- Emails. If we email you and you do not want more, tell us and we will stop.
- Counting. To be left out of the anonymous counts, turn on Global Privacy Control in a browser or extension that supports it. The site then sends no counts at all.
- More rights. Depending on where you live, the law may give you other rights over your information. Email us and we will look at your request.
Children
RV Shift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Accounts are for adults 18 and over. If you think a child has sent us information or made an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Pages and sign-in travel over HTTPS. Google handles your Google sign-in and Meta handles your Facebook sign-in, so we never see your password. Your saved-RV record sits behind database rules that let only you read, change or delete it through the site. We can see sign-in accounts and saved-RV records in our Firebase project. Forms are stored by Netlify and, for inquiry messages, by the dealer dashboard. No website can promise perfect security, but we try to collect only what the site needs.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will put the new date at the top of this page. If you keep using RV Shift after that, the new policy applies.
